SL? As in Second Life?
I was on Second Life for about a year. Loved it, but yes all it was, WAS a second life, haha. Never really had time for it, and I needed something more entertaining.
GW seems to be promising.

Friends are great! My problem is some of the friends I make (and want to keep), they want something more. That's when it gets bad.

My guild of 20 has 5 women right now, which is 25%. Of course, we also have some guys who dont sound like they have hit puberty yet, so maybe we can increase that number a bit...
Most of our people came from a MW unit though, which is heavily skewed to the male population. Also, most of our female guild members are the wives of players (The guild that plays together stays together? )

Eesh I have no interest in flirting on the game, roleplaying or for real. I stick to girls I can touch thank you. I was refering to like grouping with a female you know and there is always one jackass who has to basically profess his undying love to her and it gets annoying.

And that's when you go to the Game Suggestion Forum and ask for a "kick in the crotch" emote.

Does anyone here remember when Sierra Online had an online game? That was my first. I love FPS. Played all of Half Life. Apologies to my female counter parts here, but I love getting in and hacking and slashing my way through the crowd! I have Diablo 2, Tom Clancy, Serious Sam I & II, Doom 3, KOTR, Dues Ex 1 & 2, Halo, Quake (all of them). Ranked 3rd in the office Quake league and vying for 2nd till I got laid off. For the PS2 I been through all the Rachet & Clanks, Thievious 1 & 2, Jak. But I am also big in strategy games like Rise of Nations, Settlers, etc. Plus games Like Myst & Uru.
FPS's don't make me motion sick, and it took a long time to find a man that had no issue w/ his woman gaming more AND better than he. Now that I have him, ain't letting him go. Still talking him in to playing GW like I did for Diablo 2.
In my circle of friends it is the males who game, I'm usually the only female. That's why I like on line because I get to play with other women. Have you run into Queen Evernal? Oh yah babe she'll kick your ever loving butt into another dimension!

Which Quake? I love Ultra FreezeTag mod for Quake III, it has a very good netcode, and can host 1v1 and CTF too.

It is really cool to see fellow female gamers respond to this thread, great stuff! girls
I for one am truly happy to see other female gamers, gamers who enjoy "real" games. I have to say that the statistics counting games like minesweeper and such are not really truly cutting it for me. It is like, so are you counting the countless European men who play poker?

Yet another girl gamer checking in. My sister and I have played video games as long as I can remember, starting with Mario and Galaga and working my way up to this, my first MMORPG. I guess that's what I get for being raised in a family largely comprised of men.
As an aside, I haven't met a single girl gamer in my area, except for one friend of my sister's. It seems odd to me that the women who denounce video games as "stupid" are the same women who can spend hours picking out a single shirt, for which they shell out ridiculous sums of money. Weird.

One of my "girlfriends" at school borrowed my original Playstation and my copies of FFVII, VIII, IX, and Tactics. Let's just say she's had it for 2 months and I do not expect it back anytime soon... maybe even at all ;-)

Just regular Quake at the office because it's free. Here at home it's Quake 3. I've not played that mod, and now that I'm not in the office w/ my buds <boohoo> I'm putting all my spare time into GW!!!

Im Female
I got into online gaming when I met my (now) husband. I started with EQ.....I dont think 1/2 the gamers are female. Either they are counting female characters (with the man playing them) or they are including every game ever purchased.
Hope to see more females out there with me!!!!

Alzbeta I agree!
At school my friends used to tell me I was stupid for buying all these games, and spending hours on them... the alternative being like them, going and spending £20 on a night out in which the only thing to come out of it was a hangover the next morning.
At least I can play my games for years :P There are definately more women playing now, but I resent the comments that they're probably including free games on Yahoo!. Come off it people, thats the kinda derogative things we used to get 10 years ago :P lol. As someone already said, what about all the guys on online Casino's? (I'm sure plenty of women play those too )
Personally I think the 'lack' of females is a mix of a couple of things:
1. Women have little desire to reveal they're women; as already mentioned by me and a couple of others, you either have guys asking for naked pictures of you *rolls eyes* or confessing their undying love. Either that or get laughed at by a bunch of immature boys who we could probably pound into the ground with our characters
2. Women seem to have less desire in general to post on forums (not like me but still) unless they actually have a problem, in which case there is no need to give a biography on yourself.

I guess I never really considered myself a gamer, but have played a few games over the years.. my favorites have always been online RPG's. Played a couple of years of EQ when it came out.. played lots of others but paying monthly sucked so I cancelled the subscriptions.
I used to play games on my grandfather's Amiga back in the day, then Atari, then Nintendo. Have had XboX and now PS2 but I still prefer PC games.
Anyhow! I don't see many females that play games (that I've met in person). Most females I know think it's a waste of time/jut not interested. Some probably play enough through just watching their boyfriends play LOL...
Good thing my husband and I have computers each... I KNOW that wouldn't work out if we had to share a computer,
